Chairman Keynote Address I have the great honour to be the first founding chairman of “Hong Kong Fire Protection Association” (HKFPA). I committed to serving all members of HKFPA and the fire protection industry with affairs associated with the Association. I have been working in the fire protection industry since 1990 with extensive experience in different fields of fire protection products and applications. I am also a committee member of the Fire Group of HKISC.
One of my key responsibilities is to promote, establish and maintain a high ethical standard amongst the public and the industry engaged in professional fire protection services. With the connections with local as well as overseas fire professionals, it is also the aim of HKFPA to give input to Government bodies regarding the existing Fire Testing Standard and Building Regulations, so that we can be ahead of other countries in terms of fire safety. It is not simple to ensure a building to be fire-safe. It requires a number of elements to work together and create a fire-safe building. Besides the introduction of an effective Proactive (Passive) Fire Protection system and Active Fire Protection system, the means of escape and access for the fire services also play an important role in fire safety. However this is not the end yet. A lot of people will forget that a responsible and professional building management is crucial to maintain the fire safety of a building in its lifetime. The role of fire protection is to secure the safe escape of building occupants and to give fire fighters the time to rescue occupants. In addition, it is also the interest of the building owners and insurance companies to minimize the property loss if there is a fire. It is therefore the objective of HKFPA to communicate all these fire protection concepts to relevant parties. In the coming years of my services as the Chairman of HKFPA, I shall commit myself to serving you all to the utmost of my ability.
